One of the keys to successful entrepreneurship is to identify a specific market niche with an unfulfilled need. Not so long ago, balloons in India were a fairly routine subject. Pretty much limited to use at children’s birthday parties and with few regular varieties, most balloons also presented safety hazards. This danger came from the use of hydrogen, an explosive gas.
Enter the creativity and vision of Venu and Ramana. While they both started in traditional careers such as IT and Real estate, they had a burning desire to start a venture which is unique and fancy, they evaluated many different potential opportunities. Working with large companies such as Sun Microsystems, Venu knew that even the smallest companies could grow large with the right vision and hard work.
The results of their work identified the balloon business as one with a lot of potential in India. They noticed that:
• People didn’t use balloons in the creative ways they were in the United States and other countries
• Unavailability of helium is causing the risk at the parties because hydrogen is used to inflate balloons
• Suppliers are selling very few varieties of balloons in India
